This is a tender time, both personally and in the larger collective.
A few weeks ago, I stepped away from screens to be present with loved ones and the world around me. Amidst hurt and cruelty, I was reminded that community, kindness, and creativity are the only way forward.
The Lunch With An Author Literary Series, which held events in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara last week, kept me busy. For more information, go to: www.mandyjacksonbeverly.com/events
Paul Rudnick: Laughter as Literature
Paul Rudnick was my guest on Tuesday in Los Angeles. Paul always guarantees a great conversation, filled with humor, public observation, and great stories. I highly recommend his latest novel, What Is Wrong With You?

Chef Palak Patel: Food Is Love
On Wednesday, I spoke with Chef Palak Patel about her cookery book, Food is Love. She shared her philosophy on food and vegetarian cooking, and how love is the thread that brings them together.

Ann Hood: Stories of Loss, Wonder, and Love
From LA, I drove up to Santa Barbara for a literary luncheon with Ann Hood. Ann and I chatted about her latest novel, The Stolen Child, a beautiful story. Ann is inspiring and an excellent interviewee.

Peniel E. Joseph: History, Resilience, and Hope
Thank you to all who attended the luncheon with Peniel E. Joseph, where we spoke about his new book, Freedom Season: How 1963 Transformed America’s Civil Rights Revolution. Thank you for your emails saying how much you enjoyed learning about 1963, civil rights, and hope. From now on, when you see Peniel on various news stations, you can say, “I know Peniel!”

What These Authors Taught Me
Paul always reminds me that laughing is a potent tonic. Palak taught me how to cook with love and spices. Ann is a remarkable writer, teacher, and speaker who taught me to keep moving forward. Peniel taught me the importance of being resilient and always having hope.
And the conversations continue both in-person and on The Bookshop Podcast!
